The Surreal House

I saw the exhibition 'The Surreal House' at the Barbican Centre. A diverse collection of art, objects & film, set inside a labyrinth of spaces designed by an architect. Featuring pivotal artists, architects and film makers including Salvador Dali, Marcel Duchamp, Alberto Giacometti, René Magritte, Man Ray, through to more contemporary figures. My favorite piece - was a film featuring Buster Keating - the title of which escapes me.

Another work from the Saatchi Collection

I photographed this work at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Its not my taste or aesthetic, but it was a good piece to document rather than just 2D works...

Barbican Sky Towers

Brutalist architecture is a style of architecture which flourished from the 1950s to the mid 1970s, spawned from the modernist architectural movement. I went a tour of the Barbican Estate recently, well worth a visit if your visiting London: http://www.barbican.org.uk

Granny Smith ( 1996 )

Continuing with my posting of earlier art works - that are old enough to make me feel like its someone else's work. Some of them I find embarrassing, but I have made them, so here they are ( including the previous 3 posts ).

Mustard ( 1997 )

BlackBird

Detail from painting 'Black Bird' (1998). From the same series as the previous post: Milky Bar White.

Milky Bar White.

Detail from a painting  - long since thrown out. From 1998.

Bridge of Remembrance.

This is pretty old - from 1986 when I was a student at Vis Com, Christchurch.  I've kept the photograph as its a great example of a warm toned, fiber based print. I think it was Brovira Speed  - which is a matt paper. The image sits 'in' the paper (instead of sitting upon the emulsion of a coated paper) with the warm tones of the paper coming through the image.
